Official: Hyundai prices three-row Santa Fe from $28,350*
Feb 1st
Filed under: Car Buying, Crossover, Hyundai
Each extra inch in the wheelbase of the six- and seven-passenger 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe, compared to the five-seat Santa Fe Sport, will cost you $1,000. The larger version of Hyundai’s new people carrier is 3.9 inches longer, and whereas the Santa Fe Sport was priced at $24,450, the roomier Santa Fe comes in four flavors that start at $28,350 for the front-wheel drive GLS version. Adding all-wheel drive to the GLS tacks on another $1,750, stepping up to the front-wheel Limited takes you to $33,100, the all-wheel drive Limited topping things out at $34,850. For the true price, you’ll need to add *$845 to those prices for freight.
The base price is the same as Hyundai’s previous seven-seater option, the Veracruz, slapped on a vehicle with much better looks and more features. Compared to the Santa Fe Sport, the six- and seven-passenger option has 8.5 extra inches in overall length, 1.9 extra inches of second-row legroom and that third row of seating in its hind quarters. The second row can be had as a traditional bench or captain’s chairs on the Limited. Under the hood is the same 3.3-liter direct-injection V6 with 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed Shiftronic transmission, and the same EPA estimated 25 highway miles per gallon for the FWD version.
You also get extra standard amenities like a 115-volt socket, power liftgate and rear-seat climate controls. Check out the press release below to find out all about them.

Official: Hyundai details its five Super Bowl ads, Santa Fe is MVP [w/video]
Jan 24th
Filed under: Coupe, Sedan, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, Crossover, Hyundai
If the Super Bowl were Las Vegas, Hyundai would be considered one of its whales. The South Korean automaker will be advertising for the sixth straight year during The Big Game, and this time it’s rolling up with five spots, four of them new. The new 2013 Santa Fe gets the star treatment, featuring in three of the spots, but the theme throughout is using “a Hyundai vehicle as the ultimate sidekick and partner-in-fun.”
The four brand new commercials are:
- “Epic PlayDate” – the headliner, uses the Santa Fe for “an unforgettable and epic play date” and features a brand new song from “a legendary alternative rock band.”
- “Team” – a 30-second homage to action movies in which a young boy gathers a team to tackle the neighborhood bullies
- “Stuck” – a 30-second ad that travels with newlyweds on a road trip in a Sonata, getting stuck behind rolling obstacles
- “Excited” – a 30-second spot with NFL commentator Gus Johnson doing a play-by-play on the Genesis R-Spec tacking a track
The fifth spot, which has already aired, is called “Don’t Tell” and you’ll find it along with a press release below.

Los Angeles: Hyundai rolls out promised three-row Santa Fe for LA
Nov 28th
Filed under: LA Auto Show, Crossover, Hyundai

Hyundai has unveiled the production version of its six- and seven-passenger Santa Fe at the 2012 LA Auto Show. The new creation will be sold alongside the five-passenger Santa Fe Sport and offers buyers a 3.3-liter direct-injection V6 with 290 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. Coupled to a six speed automatic transmission, the driveline delivers a 5,000-pound tow rating, and an optional all-wheel-drive system should provide a little extra traction for drivers in snowy climes.
With an extra 3.9 inches of wheelbase over the Santa Fe Sport, the new seven-passenger CUV delivers two inches more leg room in the second row as well as a functional third row of seating. Total cargo volume also swells from 71.5 cubic feet behind the front seats in the Santa Fe Sport to 80.0 cubes in the larger variant. The seven-passenger Santa Fe also serves up 13.5 cubic feet of cargo area behind its third-row seat.
Hyundai estimates the 2013 Santa Fe will deliver 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway in front-wheel-drive configuration, while adding all-wheel-drive to the mix will drop those figures by 1 mpg highway. You can check out the full press release below for more information.

Oct 15th
Filed under: Recalls, Safety, Crossover, Honda, Hyundai
Honda and Hyundai have both had some pretty big recalls recently, and according to a The Detroit News, there could be more on the way. The report indicates that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating the 2005 Honda Pilot and the 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe for unrelated safety issues that could affect braking and/or steering.
So far, the article says that NHTSA has received 185 complaints on the 2005 Pilot for unexpected heavy deceleration or steering pull during braking. The cause is said to come from faulty software controlling the brake assist that is supposed to aid the driver in panic stops, but in the case of an estimated 87,000 Pilots, it is incorrectly detecting a panic stop during normal braking and causing the vehicle to stop harder than the driver expects. In about 20 cases, the hard braking is also causing a steering pull since the brake assist is integrated with Vehicle Stability Assist that also controls anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control. It sounds like a quick software update could be the fix for this concern.
As far as problems related to the Santa Fe, NHTSA has received a single complaint about a steering column shaft failure that could potentially affect around 70,000 of the crossovers. The one incident involved a Santa Fe with relatively low mileage where the steering column failed causing the driver to lose all ability to steer. The report seems to indicate that Hyundai reported an instance where a bolt could loosen causing the steering column to separate, but it’s unclear if this is the same issue that affected the customer’s vehicle.
Right now, both vehicles are just being investigated for these issues, but if you own one of these popular crossovers, keep an eye out for a recall.

Now that‘s how you put a ring on it.
On Saturday, Jennifer Aniston was seen rocking an engagement ring the size of Mars as she and fiance Justin Theroux enjoyed a little downtime together in Santa Fe.
Full details on the diamond have yet to be revealed, but based on these photos, one can see that it’s huge and, well, that’s all that really matters, right?
Aniston is currently in Santa Fe filming the comedy We’re the Millers, in which she plays a prostitute who pretends to be the wife of a drug dealer (Jason Sudekis).
The couple got engaged on Theroux’s birthday, August 10, over dinner at Manhattan’s Blue Hill restaurant. They have been dating for over a year.

Video: 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe gets shockingly sexy ad from Amsterdam

Filed under: Europe, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, Crossover, Hyundai
We’re not sure we’ve ever come across a vehicle capable of turning street-loads of women breathless and sweaty, and we’ve driven the 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe. Even so, a new European ad for the five-door crossover seems to convey that’s exactly what will happen when the fairer sex lays eyes on the machine. How’s that for truth in advertising?
Amsterdam-based ad house Edge Design whipped up the 45-second spot, titled “Upskirt” to show off the newly designed Santa Fe. With plenty of blowing garments and sultry actresses, there’s no missing the ad’s sensuality. We just can’t quite wrap our minds around how it all fits with a Korean family hauler.
You can take a peek at the clip for yourself below, just be warned that the spot may be Not Safe For Work depending on the severity of the totalitarian regime under which you toil.

Family Of Girl Killed In Crash With New Mexico Doctor Sues
Apr 24th
The family of a little girl killed when her family’s van was hit by a vehicle driven by a Santa Fe, New Mexico surgeon suspected of driving drunk has filed a wrongful death suit against the doctor and her insurance company.
Dr. Deborah Aaron was arrested by Santa Fe police after the Dec. 30 crash that killed 4-year-old Yuliana Aremi Reyes Vasquez. Aaron, 56, has pleaded not guilty to vehicular homicide, but the district attorney has not filed an indictment to move the case forward. She is free on a $100,000 bond.
In court documents, police have said the little girl’s mother wasn’t sure if she had a green light and they have conflicting witness reports.
The Albuquerque Journal reported the lawsuit filed on the family’s behalf on Wednesday flatly says the girl’s mother, Karla Aremi Vasquez Rivera, had the green light when she entered the intersection after first stopping at a red light.
“When she received a green arrow, she initiated a left-hand turn towards the northbound lanes of St. Francis Drive,” the lawsuit states. “As she proceeded across the intersection the minivan was struck by Dr. Aaron’s Range Rover.”
Aaron failed a field sobriety test, smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes, according to an officer’s report. A blood sample later found her blood-alcohol content was 0.08 percent, the level where drivers are presumed to be intoxicated under state law.
Dan Cron, Aaron’s attorney for the vehicular homicide charge, couldn’t be reached for comment Friday.
Police have said one witness told investigators it was the family minivan that ran a red light and that the light was green for Aaron on St. Francis.
The district attorney’s office has not filed an indictment to move the charge against Aaron forward, and police have said they’re trying to determine which driver had the right of way. Aaron has

What you see above is a video of a Santa Fe man who’s had it up to here and is not going to take it anymore. The New Mexico city has a deal with Redflex to operate unmanned speed enforcement vehicles which are parked along the road to photograph breakneck miscreants.
On the morning of April 11 at 1:20 a.m., a man dressed like Mr. Magoo pulled up to one of those vehicles, got out, stepped up to the mark and shot it five times. No one was hurt, not even the camera. As you might expect, police are trying to find the mystery nightgown.
Check out the video for a clip from Dirty Harry Magoo vs. Redflex.
