DALLAS (AP) — Double-dipping — the well-established practice of public workers collecting government pensions and salaries at the same time — has become a hot topic for lawmakers struggling with strained budgets.
Even as some states have begun curbing the practice, a review by The Associated Press found tens of thousands of state and public school employees drawing government salaries along with their pensions. In five states alone — California, New York, Texas, Florida and Michigan — at least 66,000 government retirees also receive taxpayer-funded paychecks.
One is engineer Maury Roos, who retired from the California Department of Water Resources with an annual pension of more than $113,000. He returned part-time within weeks.
Roos says he uses the extra money to go to engineering conferences and the state gets an experienced engineer.

Well, after the termination of 50 Cent’s alignment with Sleek, it was only a matter time before the rapper’s SMS Audio company filled the void. (After all, how do you know your cans are quality if they haven’t been endorsed by a man who was shot nine times and survived.) We don’t know when the wireless SYNC by 50 headphones will arrive or how much they’ll cost, but you can bet the part-time actor and entrepreneur will be making the rounds, trying to sell us on the 40mm driver, 50-foot range, “professionally tuned digital EQ” and noise cancellation. While the integrated music controls are nice, our favorite feature might be the ability to connect four sets of SYNCs to the same source. Unemployed face tough competition: underemployed

WASHINGTON (AP) — The job market is even worse than the 9.1 percent unemployment rate suggests.
America’s 14 million unemployed aren’t competing just with each other. They must also contend with 8.8 million other people not counted as unemployed — part-timers who want full-time work.
When consumer demand picks up, companies will likely boost the hours of their part-timers before they add jobs, economists say. It means they have room to expand without hiring.

Quick: What’s the world’s most practical supercar? We’re sure some Corvette and GT-R fanatics would answer otherwise, but we’re going to go with the Porsche 911, in one of its many fantastic iterations. Narrowing it down a little further, we’ll go with the 911 Turbo coupe, which offers at least vestigial rear seats, all-wheel drive and several hundred horsepower, all lined in a sumptuously luxurious leather-clad cabin.
Plus, as demonstrated in the video after the break, the 911 Turbo can also pull part-time duty as a small pickup truck. Don’t believe us? See for yourself.
