Video: Shooting the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster
Nov 6th
Filed under: Convertible, Performance, Etc., Videos, Mercedes-Benz, Luxury
If you’ve ever glanced through a new vehicle’s official PR photographs and wondered exactly what went into their creation, we have something special for you. Mercedes-Benz has released a quick video detailing the work involved in photographing the company’s SLS AMG Roadster. Let’s just say it wasn’t one guy in a parking lot with a point-and-shoot. The endeavor looks to have taken more talent than a shuttle launch to execute, with Michael and Ralf Schumacher on hand as models, multiple grips, and arsenal of photo technology. Color us jealous.
We think that the SLS AMG Roadster looks sexy in any situation, but the professional photography sure doesn’t hurt, either. Hit the jump to check out the making-of video for yourself.

Nissan Leaf RC goes Gymkhana at Japanese motorsport festival
Nov 1st
Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Nissan, Racing, Videos
Electric cars and the act of hooning wouldn’t ostensibly be something you’d think would go well together. But then that’s what they said about EVs and racing. With the Leaf NISMO RC, Nissan is setting out to prove those assumptions wrong.
The company brought its electric racer to the Motorsports Japan Festival at Odaiba in Tokyo, where a trio of drivers got their chance to slide the Leaf RC around a giant parking lot to entertain the assembled masses. And while the results may not be up to Ken Block standards of Gymkhana, it is fun to watch them try.
Follow the jump to watch the footage. (If you don’t speak Japanese, by the way, you can skip the last couple of minutes, because that’s all interviews with the drivers in their native tongue.)

Oct 25th
It’s no Ford F-150, but this toy tank earns our respect for its towing prowess nonetheless. That second-generation Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Model 90 weighs over two tons, but the not-so-little remote control tank seems to have no problem pulling it through a parking lot to the amusement of quite a few onlookers.
Like any YouTube video, we wonder what – if anything – we are not seeing. In the first shot, it does appear that the passenger door is open. Could someone be pushing to help the SUV overcome inertia?
Click through the jump to see the tank towing video, plus a little bonus footage of that late-90′s Land Cruiser Prado.

Video: BMW pulls The Switch on unsuspecting 1 Series owner
Oct 5th
Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Marketing/Advertising, Videos, BMW
We can appreciate a well-orchestrated prank as much as the next guy. But being the car nuts we are, we’d implore any would-be prankster to leave cars out of it. TP the guy’s house, Saran-wrap the toilet, make a crank call or two if you must. But for the love of all things holy, please leave the cars alone.
At least that’s what we thought before we saw the kind of candid-camera prank the BMW Performance Parts team had in store for one driver in Singapore. The proud owner of a 1 Series Coupe returned to her car in the parking lot to find her car fitted with a Performance Power Kit and an upgraded exhaust system. It’s a marketing schtick that reminds us of TV shows like Overhaulin’, but at least it’s sort of car prank we can get on board with. Check it out after the jump, and be mindful of a little bit of Not Safe For Work language.

Live from my house: The Cabela’s Adventure Starts Here tour
Sep 29th
<!–Activision always asks me, “Justin, what do we have to do to get you to cover games in our popular Cabela’s hunting series?” I never imagined, when I demanded the company drive a trailer with a fake bighorn sheep to the hospital parking lot directly behind my house, that I’d be taken so literally.
So, against all odds, here’s a video tour of the Adventure Starts Here trailer, coming to a parking lot somewhere near you. Oh, and you’ll also get a look at the new Kinect controller for Cabela’s Hunting Party and some gameplay footage from Cabela’s Survival: Shadows of Katmai.
Wanna see the trailer for yourself? We’ve got a full list of stops after the break.

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Nissan, Renault, Europe/EU

Nissan has teamed up with leading European firms, including Circutor, DBT, Efacec, Endesa and Siemens, to speed development and installation of public-access quick-charge stations across Europe.
This agreement centers on the widespread deployment of Nissan’s sub-$10,000 quick-charger, a unit which the Japanese automakers says will pave the way for businesses, including service stations, parking lot operators and retail outlets to install quick chargers and operate them as a profitable commercial enterprise.
For Nissan, the deployment of quick-charge units throughout Europe will likely make its Leaf more practical, as the vehicle will be able to conquer longer journeys by recharging to 80 percent capacity in less than 30 minutes. This, Nissan says/hopes, should boost Leaf sales tremendously across Europe. Nissan says the main goal of this agreement is to have thousands of quick-charge stations installed throughout Europe by the end of 2012 and – are you ready for this? – tens of thousands by 2015.

Sep 22nd
Filed under: Aftermarket, Etc., Videos, Toys/Games, Motorcycle, Design/Style
It was only a matter of time before someone bent the full brunt of their mechanical might toward creating a full-scale, operational version of the light cycle from Tron: Legacy. That someone just happened to be the crew from Parker Brothers Choppers. Using lithium-ion batteries and a 96-volt electric motor, the guys built a real-life version of the bikes made famous by the first Tron. If that’s not enough to pique your interest, they’re also giving one of the bikes away to one very lucky fan.
If you want to claim a light cycle as your very own, all you have to do is craft a brief, three-minute video describing why you deserve to take the cycle home as your very own, don’t do anything illegal or dangerous while filming it and get chosen out of the hordes of other sci-fi fans itching to get their paws on the machine. It’s that simple. Hit the jump to check out a video of the light cycle whirring around a mall parking lot, and head over to the Parker Brothers site for more information on the giveaway.

Have you ever wanted to alphabetize a bowl of alphabet soup? Swiss artist Ursus Wehrli did just that. The very tidy man also fixed up a haphazard parking lot and a photograph from the depths of the cosmos.
