Wii U Panorama View app visible in spring
Dec 5th
Wii U Panorama View, an app that lets you view panoramic videos on the GamePad, changing the view by moving the device around, will launch in the spring in both North America and Europe, Nintendo announced today. It’ll be an eShop release, allowing you to simulate flying with birds, view London and Kyoto, and more.
In advance of the full release, Nintendo will put a “free preview demo” on eShop, featuring multiple scenes.

May 23rd
The Game Bakers’ mobile, PC and Mac RPG title Squids is getting a rough ‘n rowdy update this summer with a new chapter: the Wild West.
To prepare players for the Wild West, Game Bakers launched a free update on the App Store today, featuring three western-ized levels in Seawood, a new Squid hero named Cleef and a new enemy, the Buffalo Shrimp. The update also brings a higher level cap, a new Game Center achievement and improved social media functionality.
We hope it also demonstrates how tumbleweeds blow across a dry dirt street in a fully underwater environment.

Apr 17th
Here’s a clear indication of Microsoft’s marketing angle for the Xbox 360 in 2012. This weekend, from April 19 to April 23, is a free preview of Xbox Live Gold, meaning even non-paying users will be able to take part in subscription-only functionality at that time.
But not all subscription-only functionality. Microsoft is touting it as a chance to “enjoy all of the customized entertainment app experiences featured on the Xbox LIVE service.” It’s all about the TV services, and unlike most XBL free weekends, “Multi-player gaming will not be unlocked in this promotion.”
In addition to free access to apps like Crackle, Syfy, and Vudu, you can get a free trial of Hulu Plus, Netflix, or EPIX during this period (really, you can get a free trial of Hulu Plus or Netflix any time!). The full list of apps is posted on the promotion’s site.

Jul 29th

If you’re reading magazines on your iPad, there’s a fairly good chance that you’re using Zinio. Released today, version 2.0 of the Zinio app for iPad makes it easier to hand over those newsstand-like per-issue fees with in-app purchasing, while also adding a variety of free preview content, including access to current articles from thousands of top publications. The app’s new Explore section hosts this new free content, which updates daily and includes stories from magazines like Esquire, Rolling Stone, and Elle. The new app also features significant performance boosts, like we saw with last month’s Android update, in-magazine shopping, and advanced bookmarks. Another update in the coming months will bring social media capabilities, such as bookmark and article sharing. We’d still love to see lower per-issue and subscription rates, but we’re happy to welcome free article content in the meantime. Jump past the break for a video overview, along with a sneak peek at those social media features with Zinio CEO Rich Maggiotto.
