Is it possible for a minivan to be more exciting than an Acura NSX? Well, Honda is trying to find out by entering a 532-horsepower Odyssey into the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb with IndyCar racer Simon Pagenaud behind the wheel.
Starting with a stock Odyssey, Honda dropped in a turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 producing an estimated 532 hp and 460 pound-feet of torque as well as racing suspension, tires and brakes and one of the biggest roll cages you’re likely to ever see. If this van looks familiar to you, you aren’t alone – it’s a veteran of the Tire Rack One Lap of America.
In addition to this super minivan, Honda will also be entering a first-gen NSX, CR-Z hybrid, Fit EV and Acura TL into the competition as well as five motorcycles and an all-terrain vehicle. Scroll down for the full details on Honda’s comprehensive assault on Pikes Peak.

Featured: A conversation with Ted Klaus, chief engineer of the new Acura NSX

Filed under: Coupe, Hybrid, Performance, Acura, Luxury

Last week, Autoblog sat down with Ted Klaus, chief engineer of the upcoming Acura NSX flagship, at the corporate headquarters of American Honda in Southern California. The roundtable discussion with a few other members of the media was very casual. However, since the hybrid supercar isn’t due in showrooms for another couple years and most of the engineering program is still shrouded in secrecy, the bulk of our detailed questions about powertrain and performance were mildly deflected. Nevertheless, it was nice to probe the mind of the man holding the weight of the project on his shoulders – the NSX is immensely important to Honda, and it’s Klaus’ role to steer the program to fruition.
As revealed earlier today, the all-new second-generation NSX will be built at a new Performance Manufacturing Center located in the midst of Honda’s existing R&D and production engineering operations near Marysville, Ohio. Acura expects the U.S. to be the largest market for the NSX, and the company takes great pride in its North American operation, so it was both logical and complementary that the Japanese automaker chose Ohio to be the sole world supplier for the upcoming second-generation Acura/Honda NSX. When asked about the program dates, Klaus maintained that the program was moving forward on schedule, and that its estimated arrival was set for 2015 – the original goal. Like many halo models, the made-in-USA NSX will pioneer innovative building technology for Acura and Honda alike. Klaus wouldn’t discuss specific building materials, but the monocoque chassis will be assembled with several “world firsts” when it comes to construction techniques and materials. Remember, it was the first-generation NSX, introduced at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, which debuted with lightweight aluminum body panels, titanium connecting rods and forged wheels.

Honda today confirmed that the forthcoming Acura NSX hybrid supercar will be built at a brand-new facility in Ohio. This will be the company’s third plant in Ohio, and will come as the result of a $70 million investment. Honda first hinted that NSX production would be coming to Ohio when the original concept car was revealed at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.
Honda’s new facility, called the Performance Manufacturing Center, will encompass a 184,000-square foot space inside of the automaker’s former North American Logistics building and will employ 100 associates. As you might expect, the Performance Manufacturing Center is located just a few miles from Honda’s American-based R&D facility, as well as the Marysville auto plant, where production of the 2014 Accord Hybrid will kick off this fall.
“The location of this facility is in the midst of one of the greatest collections of engineering and production talent in the world. So it makes sense that we will renew the dream and build this high-tech, supercar in Marysville, Ohio,” said Hidenobu Iwata, president and CEO of Honda of America, in a press release.
Production of the Acura NSX will begin sometime in 2015. We have already seen the hybrid hero several times in conceptual form, with the latest reveal at this year’s Detroit Auto Show giving us a glimpse at the car’s interior.
Scroll down for the full details in Honda’s press release.

Motorsports: LoveFab headed back to Pikes Peak with NSX-based heathen [w/video]
Apr 2nd
Filed under: Motorsports, Coupe, Videos, Acura, Specialty, Racing
LoveFab had a rough run at Pikes Peak 2012. During qualifying on Day Two, owner and professional driver Cody Loveland launched his car off of the course at nearly 60 miles per hour. Never ones to be dismayed by a few bruised ribs and some busted body panels, LoveFab is headed back to the hill climb for 2013, and this year, it’s bringing Garrett along as a title sponsor.
Loveland’s chariot of choice is officially dubbed “Turbo by Garrett/LoveFab Pikes Peak Enviate” and is loosely based on an Acura NSX. All of the stock Japanese components have been swapped for LoveFab-built pieces with the exception of the subframes and suspension.
With a dry-sump LS1 V8, chromoly-tube chassis and a full carbon fiber body, the car is about as wild as they come. With around 800 pound-feet of torque on hand and a curb weight of under 2,000 pounds, the machine should give the mountain a run for its money. The team is expected to begin testing Enviate beginning May 1. You can check out a quick interview with Loveland in the video below along with the full press release.

Acura unveils updated NSX concept, has one V6 and three electric motors (eyes-on)
Jan 15th
Acura chose last year’s NAIAS to unveil the reborn NSX, heir to an epic throne of motorsports lineage. But, it was lacking a few things — most notably an interior. This year, Honda’s superlative brand is showing off a new generation of concept for the car that is still, sadly, at least two years away from production. As before it’s powered by the company’s Sport Hybrid SH-AWD, a system that’s spun most forcefully by a mid-mounted V6, helped by three electric motors. One is mounted to the V6 to provide a hybrid setup, the other two slung between the front wheels to give those tires up front little spin when needed. The new interior is a typically focused experience, full of leather and carbon fiber. It looks perfectly ready for production, but we’re told it’s just one potential design from a few they’re toying with. No word on how much Acura’s return to the supercar world might cost when it goes into production, but we’re just glad to see this on a definite path to availability.
